Recap: Dallas vs. NY Islanders

Dallas, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - The New York Islanders extended both their road winning streak and Dallas' woes in dramatic fashion, scoring three times in the final 4:16 of the third period for a 4-2 win over the falling Stars.

Kyle Okposo had two goals, including the game-tying marker, for the Islanders, who have won four straight and seven in a row as the visiting club. John Tavares put New York ahead with 1:24 remaining before Brock Nelson added an empty-netter.

Kevin Poulin gave up two first-period goals to the Stars, but recovered to finish with 29 saves.

"I thought we were watching a little bit, but again we were still right there," said Islanders head coach Jack Capuano. "We came in in the second and we came back out and we started to get going a little bit. We tried to activate our D a little more and apply a little more pressure on the forecheck and things started to come for us."

Dan Ellis stopped 27 shots for Dallas, which has dropped its last six games -- all in regulation.

The Islanders drew even at 2-2 when Okposo fired a shot from the top of the right circle in off the far post.

Tavares, who recorded his fifth career hat trick and added two assists in a 7-3 home win against the Stars last Monday, was skating down the right wing and converted Calvin de Haan's crossing pass to put New York on top.

Shortly after Ellis was pulled for an extra skater, Nelson netted the clincher.

"When you're struggling as a group, instead of finding ways to win you find ways to lose, and that's kind of where we're at right now," said Stars forward Ray Whitney.

Dallas built a 2-0 lead by the end of the first period on goals by Whitney and Sergei Gonchar.

Vernon Fiddler retrieved a dump-in and chipped the puck behind the net to Alex Chiasson and he dished out front to Whitney, who beat Poulin on a shot from the left circle at 11:45.

Gonchar then pinched in from his point position to force a turnover and lit the lamp for the first time this season with 1:48 left.

Okposo scored off a Thomas Vanek feed at 10:47 of the second period.

Game Notes

The Islanders are one win shy of matching the longest road winning streak in franchise history: eight games from Feb. 27-Mar. 29, 1981 ... Vanek and de Haan both had two assists.
