Lightning re-up Johnson for 3 years

Tampa, FL ( - The Tampa Bay Lightning re-signed forward Tyler Johnson to a three-year contract on Friday.

Johnson, who was set to be a restricted free agent in July, completed his first full NHL campaign with 24 goals and 50 points while participating in all 82 regular-season games for the Bolts. He added a goal and one assist in four playoff appearances.

"He's had an outstanding first year in the league, We're happy to get him under contract," stated Lightning general manager Steve Yzerman.

The 23-year-old native of Spokane, Washington, who is one of three finalists for the Calder Trophy as the league's top rookie, was named the most valuable player in the American Hockey League last season after totaling 65 points in 62 games for the Syracuse Crunch.

Prior to that, Johnson recorded 128 goals and 282 points over 266 games for his hometown Spokane Chiefs of the Western Hockey League in Canadian juniors.
