New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - As expected, New York Rangers center Derek Stepan will not play in Sunday's Game 4 of the Eastern Conference finals after breaking his jaw during Thursday's clash with the Montreal Canadiens.

Stepan sustained the injury from a hit by Canadiens forward Brandon Prust during the first period of Montreal's 3-2 overtime win in Thursday's Game 3. Though he returned to the contest, the 23-year-old underwent surgery on Friday and was considered doubtful to suit up for Game 4.

The fourth-year forward has never missed a game since joining the Rangers, owning a streak of 348 consecutive tilts that include the playoffs.

Rangers head coach Alain Vigneault stated Sunday that Stepan has been released from the hospital and visited the team that morning before returning home to recover.

Prust was not penalized for the hit, but was levied a two-game suspension by the NHL that begins Sunday.

In other injury news, Vigneault termed center Derick Brassard a game-time decision for Sunday's showdown, but told reporters his availability is "looking good, in my estimation."

Brassard has sat out the last two games of the series after suffering an upper-body injury in the opener.

Montreal had dropped Games 1 and 2 on home ice before coming through with Thursday's victory at Madison Square Garden.
