Newark, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - The New Jersey Devils signed veteran reserve netminder Scott Clemmensen to a contract on Tuesday.

Clemmensen has spent the last five seasons with the Florida Panthers, racking up a 40-39-18 mark, 2.88 goals-against average and three whitewashes in 120 appearances. He finished 6-7-1 with a 3.09 GAA in 17 contests last season.

Taken by the Devils in the eighth round of the 1997 draft, Clemmensen made his NHL debut during the 2001-02 season after helping Boston College win the 2001 NCAA championship.

When not honing his craft in Albany, he backed up future Hall of Fame goaltender Martin Brodeur from 2001 to 2007 and again in 2008-09 after a one- year stint in the Toronto organization.

The Iowa native's largest stretch of playing time occurred in the 2008-09 season, when Brodeur was shelved long term due to injury. He filled in by going 25-13-1 with a 2.39 GAA, .917 save percentage and two shutouts over 40 games.

According to reports, No. 1 goalie Cory Schneider is expected to be signed to an extension shortly. Schneider has one year remaining, at $4 million, on his current deal before he becomes an unrestricted free agent next July.
