New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Montreal Canadiens head coach Michel Therrien announced Thursday that forward Dale Weise will not play in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference finals due to an injury he sustained in Tuesday's game against the New York Rangers.

Weise was the recipient of an illegal check to the head from Rangers defenseman John Moore during the third period of Montreal's 7-4 victory in Game 5. Moore received a 10-minute match penalty for the play and was later handed a two-game suspension by the NHL that will begin with Thursday's clash.

Therrien told reporters that Weise, who did briefly return to Tuesday's contest, is not dealing with a concussion but declined to offer specifics about the injury.

Weise's absence coincides with the return of Brandon Prust to Montreal's lineup for Game 6. The physical forward sat out the past two games of the series after being suspended for a hit on New York's Derek Stepan in Game 3.

Stepan sustained a broken jaw from Prust's shot and sat out Sunday's Game 4, but returned to action Tuesday and scored a pair of goals in the Rangers' loss.

Therrien also termed defenseman Alexei Emelin, who missed Tuesday's tilt with a lower-body injury, a game-time decision for Game 6.

The Canadiens need to win Thursday in Madison Square Garden to send the series back to Montreal for a deciding Game 7, which is scheduled to take place Saturday.
