Recap: San Francisco vs. Washington

Santa Clara, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Carlos Hyde's late touchdown gave the San Francisco 49ers a 17-13 win over the Washington Redskins on Sunday.

Colin Kaepernick was 20-for-29 for 256 yards with an interception and a touchdown pass to Anquan Boldin for the 49ers (7-4), who have won their past three games.

"The guys did what they needed to do, when they needed to do it," said 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh. "Good teams win those kind of games. I'm proud of our guys."

Coming off a tough week, Washington quarterback Robert Griffin III didn't do much to help himself in the game as he went 11-for-19 for 106 yards while adding just 11 yards on the ground.

Griffin had said after last week's loss to Tampa Bay about needing other guys to play well, with some thinking he was throwing his team under the bus, which he went on to deny on his Twitter account. On Monday, head coach Jay Gruden pointed out fundamental issues Griffin was still having but then backtracked on Wednesday by saying that no one should be singled out.

Alfred Morris had 21 carries for 125 yards and a touchdown for the Redskins (3-8), who have lost their past three games.

"We had opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," Morris said.

The Redskins had taken a 13-10 lead after Kai Forbath hit a 46-yard field goal with 7:42 to play.

Facing a 3rd-and-6, Kaepernick hit Vernon Davis for six yards to move the chains, but Washington challenged the spot and the call was reversed, leaving San Francisco with a 4th-and-1 at its own 34. Frank Gore, though bulled his way up the middle for three yards and a fresh set of downs.

The next snap saw Boldin catch a pass for 29 yards, and an unnecessary roughness call to Washington tacked on 15 more yards down to the Washington 19. Three plays later, Hyde shrugged off a hard hit for a 4-yard score and a 17-13 lead with 2:59 to play.

Washington went three-and-out and had to punt, but forced San Francisco to a three-and-out, burning up their three timeouts in the process.

Quickly facing a third down, Griffin fumbled on a sack and San Francisco recovered to end the game.

San Francisco needed just five snaps on its first possession to take the lead, as Kaepernick went deep down the right side for Boldin, who caught the ball for a 30-yard score and a 7-0 lead less than four minutes in.

Washington managed just two first downs in the first quarter, and went three- and-out on its first touch of the second quarter.

Holding the 49ers to a three-and-out, the Redskins got the ball back at their own 39 and Griffin converted a 3rd-and-5 with a 7-yard pass to Andre Roberts. A 24-yard catch by Pierre Garcon got the ball down to the San Francisco 25 and Morris' 11-yard run gave the team a 1st-and-goal at the 1.

Darrel Young was stopped on two straight carries, but Morris punched it in on the third try to tie the game with 5:33 left in the half.

San Francisco got to the Washington 48 with 11 seconds left and facing a 4th- and-2, but Kaepernick hit Michael Crabtree for 25 yards and he got out of bounds with five seconds left. That led to Phil Dawson's 41-yard field goal as time expired to give the team a 10-7 lead at the break.

Washington tied the game on a 27-yard field goal from Forbath with just 31 seconds left in the third quarter. The drive went 69 yards over seven plays, with a 32-yard catch by DeSean Jackson providing the bulk of the yards.

A Gore fumble in the fourth gave the Redskins the ball at the 49ers' 36, but the team managed just eight yards and Forbath's 46-yard field goal made it a 13-10 game.
