Recap: Arizona vs. Washington

Glendale, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - Carson Palmer threw two touchdown passes in his return, helping the Arizona Cardinals post a 30-20 victory over the struggling Washington Redskins.

Palmer, sidelined for the past three games with a nerve issue in his throwing shoulder, completed 28-of-44 passes for 250 yards.

"I was pleased with Carson's performance," Arizona coach Bruce Arians said. "I think he showed some rust, but he got through it and did a heck of a job for us."

Larry Fitzgerald had 98 yards and a touchdown on six receptions as the Cardinals (4-1) beat the Redskins for the first time since Nov. 5, 2000, snapping an eight-game losing streak in the series.

Washington (1-5) committed four turnovers in the fourth quarter, including three interceptions by Kirk Cousins.

"We were just unable to convert and make plays," Redskins coach Jay Gruden said during the postgame press conference. "It's a broken record every time I stand up here."

Despite the miscues, the Redskins were still alive.

Cousins threw his second touchdown pass, a 5-yarder to Pierre Garcon, to trim Arizona's lead to 23-20 with 2:17 to play.

The Cardinals were forced to punt after recovering an onside kick. Washington got the ball back with 29 seconds remaining, but Cousins' first-down pass was picked off by Rashad Johnson, who returned it 28 yards for a touchdown.

Cousins finished with 354 yards on 24-of-38 passing in the Redskins' fourth consecutive loss.

The Cardinals opened the scoring when Michael Floyd caught a 20-yard touchdown pass late in the first quarter.

Washington tied the game on the second play of the second quarter. On 2nd- and-20 following a Cousins sack, DeSean Jackson caught a short toss from Cousins on a slant route and sprinted to the end zone for a 64-yard touchdown.

Jackson had another big play on the next Washington drive, taking a screen pass 42 yards down to the Arizona 10. He may have reached the end zone if not for a teammate tripping him. The Redskins settled for a 28-yard Kai Forbath field goal.

The Cardinals moved back in front on Fitzgerald's 24-yard touchdown grab with 31 seconds left in the opening half.

Despite the limited amount of time on the clock, Roy Helu, Jr. was able to get to the Arizona 39 with an eight-yard run and a 33-yard gain on a screen pass. After Alfred Morris picked up 14 yards on a carry, Forbath made a 43-yarder with two seconds to play.

The Cardinals' first drive of the third quarter consumed nearly eight minutes and ended with Chandler Catanzaro kicking a 33-yard field goal.

Catanzaro made field goals of 49 and 37 yards in the fourth quarter.

Game Notes

Jordan Reed had 92 yards on eight catches for Washington ... The Redskins were 2-for-10 on third down ... Arizona was flagged 14 times for 108 yards.
