Recap: Indianapolis vs. New Orleans
Indianapolis, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - Drew Brees passed for 128 yards and two touchdowns on 9-of-15 efficiency as New Orleans outlasted Indianapolis, 23-17, in exhibition action on Saturday.
Mark Ingram totaled 46 yards on eight carries, Pierre Thomas added 66 yards on four grabs, while Marques Colston and Austin Johnson contributed a TD reception each for the Saints, who improved to 3-0 in the preseason.
Ryan Griffin and Luke McCown combined to go 11-of-23 for 91 yards and one interception.
Andrew Luck and Chandler Harnish each produced a TD pass for the Colts, who dropped to 0-3. Luck started and was 10-of-18 for 103 yards with a pick for the hosts.
Coby Fleener and Josh Lenz reached the end zone on passes, while Dan Herron led all rushers with 68 yards on eight carries.
New Orleans led 20-7 late in the first half thanks to Brees' 3-yard connection to Johnson and a 13-yard hookup to Colston and Shayne Graham field goals of 39 and 24 yards. Indy's only answer in the barrage was Fleener's 21-yard TD catch in the opening quarter.
Adam Vinatieri hit a 20-yarder to close out the half, then the Colts drew within 20-17 when Harnish found Lenz for a 22-yard score in the fourth. Derek Dimke's 45-yard make provided valuable insurance for the Saints.Game Notes
