Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Houston Texans interim head coach Wade Phillips confirmed Monday that starting quarterback Case Keenum sustained a sprained right thumb during Sunday's 25-3 loss in Indianapolis.

The right-handed Keenum underwent an MRI Monday to determine the significance of the injury.

"We'll see what they say from the MRI and see what the doctors say and see what he's able to do," Phillips said when asked of Keenum's status for Week 16. "It's certainly a concern on the quarterback when it's (his) right hand, thumb. But we'll just have to wait and see what he can do on Wednesday in practice."

The 25-year-old signal-caller completed 18-of-34 passes for 168 yards with two interceptions against the Colts, who handed Houston its 12th straight setback.

Starting running back Ben Tate also got banged up in Sunday's loss, aggravating a rib injury that caused him to go in for a CT scan Monday.

"Well, I mean, I don't know right now. It's hard for me to answer that," Phillips said when asked if Tate will play this week. "The CT scan will tell us more on Tate."

The Texans, who fired head coach Gary Kubiak last week, will take on Denver Sunday before wrapping up their season at Tennessee on Dec. 29.
