Recap: Minnesota vs. Utah

Minneapolis, MN (SportsNetwork.com) - Trey Burke scored a season-high 28 points on 10-of-16 shooting to help the Utah Jazz defeat the Minnesota Timberwolves 101-89 on Saturday.

Burke added six assists and six rebounds for the Jazz, winners of two of their last three.

Rudy Gobert set career highs with 13 points and six blocks and added 11 boards for Utah. Trevor Booker scored eight points with 15 boards.

Minnesota was led by Andrew Wiggins' and Mo Williams' 20 points each in its 11th straight loss. The Timberwolves have not won since their victory over Portland on Dec. 10.

Thanks to Gobert and Booker, the Jazz had no problem making up for the loss of center Enes Kanter, who went down with a sprained ankle in Utah's loss to Atlanta on Friday. Utah held a 47-37 rebounding edge and outscored Minnesota 46-36 in the paint.

"Our guys collectively played pretty good defense," said Jazz coach Quin Snyder. "As a group, we wanted to be solid, and that's what our guys were. They were solid."

The Jazz took a 47-41 lead into the break after finishing the second period on a 12-4 run. Back-to-back 3s from Burke and Ian Clark started the run, and it was punctuated by Gordon Hayward's dunk as time expired.

In the third quarter, Utah used a 10-0 run to build its largest lead at 20. During the surge, Gobert scored three points, grabbed three rebounds and blocked a shot. The Jazz led 77-61 after three.

Gobert scored 11 points, blocked five shots and grabbed five rebounds just in the third.

Wiggins and Williams combined to score 10 points in the first three minutes of the final quarter in a 10-2 run that pulled the Timberwolves within eight and forced a Jazz timeout.

Minnesota did not get any closer after that. A Derrick Favors slam dunk out of the timeout extended the lead back to double digits, and it remained there for the rest of the game. Burke scored 11 points in the final nine minutes to help the Jazz put the game away.

"Like I told our guys in there, don't think it can't get worse," said Minnesota coach Flip Saunders. "It definitely can."

The Timberwolves had a 21-20 edge after one quarter, led by six points from Wiggins. Utah shot just 38.9 percent in the period, but they were 4-of-6 from long distance and scored seven second-chance points.
