O's, Wieters agree to 1-year deal

Baltimore, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - The Baltimore Orioles and catcher Matt Wieters agreed to a one-year contract on Thursday, thus avoiding arbitration.

Wieters batted .235 with 22 home runs and 79 RBI in 148 games for the Orioles last season.

Selected fifth overall by Baltimore in the 2007 amateur draft, Wieters, 27, has batted .255 with 87 homers and 328 RBI in 657 games over five seasons since breaking into the league with the O's in 2009.
