Recap: Baltimore vs. Boston

Baltimore, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - Joe Kelly pitched seven strong innings and the Boston Red Sox nabbed a 3-2 win over the Baltimore Orioles to wrap up a three-game series.

Kelly (3-2) allowed two runs on three hits with three walks and five strikeouts for the Red Sox, who had lost five of seven coming into the game.

"He had good power to his fastball. When he mixes in his curveball, which he did the second, third time through the order, he really has such quality stuff to keep people off balance," Red Sox manager John Farrell said about Kelly.

Mookie Betts and David Ross each hit a solo home run in the win.

Miguel Gonzalez (9-9) gave up three runs on eight hits with a pair of walks and seven strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings for the Orioles, who had won five of six coming in.

"It's important. It'll be great to have 10 wins," Gonzalez said.

Boston had a lead with its first at-bat as Betts led off the contest with his fifth home run of the season.

In the fifth, the Red Sox added to their advantage as Jemile Weeks singled with one out, moved to second on Daniel Nava's walk then scored on Cespedes' single for a 2-0 lead.

Ross' two-out solo home run in the sixth staked the Red Sox to a 3-0 lead.

The Orioles had just three base runners over the first five innings, but were able to plate two runs in the sixth.

Alejandro De Aza walked to start the frame and quickly came home on a David Lough double. Lough moved to third on a Delmon Young fly out, and scored on a Nelson Cruz groundout to make it a 3-2 game.

Baltimore left two men on base in the eighth and Edward Mujica pitched around a two-out single in the ninth to pick up his eighth save of the season.
