Recap: Chicago Cubs vs. Los Angeles

Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Yasiel Puig finished 3-for-5 with an RBI and run scored as Los Angeles used a late rally to overcome Chicago, 8-4, in the opener of a four-game set from Wrigley Field.

Dee Gordon added two hits, scored once and drove in a run for the Dodgers, who snapped a two-game slide and lead idle San Francisco by 2 1/2 games in the NL West.

Matt Kemp, Juan Uribe, A.J. Ellis, Andre Ethier and Justin Turner were also credited with an RBI apiece in the triumph. Paco Rodriguez (1-0) tossed a scoreless sixth inning to snag the win.

"We're happy to have gained a half-game tonight," Ellis said.

Jorge Soler picked up a pair of hits and knocked in two for the Cubs, who were coming off a sweep of the Cincinnati Reds. Luis Valbuena and Mike Olt added an RBI apiece, with Javier Baez adding two hits and two runs scored.

Neil Ramirez (2-3) was charged with five runs -- though only one was earned -- and recorded just two outs in the seventh inning which propelled the visitors to victory.

"They're a very good ball club," Cubs manager Rick Renteria said of the Dodgers. "It's a good challenge."

Los Angeles vaulted into the lead with nine outs remaining. Hanley Ramirez and Carl Crawford singled to put runners on the corners, and a Logan Watkins error on a Uribe grounder plated one run. Ethier followed with a pinch-hit RBI double, then pinch-hitter Turner added a run-scoring groundout, Gordon added a double to bring in Ethier and Puig's single allowed Gordon to cross home and cap the rally at 6-4.

Drew Butera's walk with the bases loaded upped the Dodgers' edge to three in the eighth, and Kemp's sacrifice fly in the ninth provided an 8-4 lead for the visitors.

Kenley Jansen struck out two in a spotless final frame.

Chicago jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first on back-to-back RBI singles from Valbuena and Soler.

An Ellis groundout scored Scott Van Slyke in the fifth, but the Cubs tacked on two more in the home half on a Soler single and Olt sacrifice fly.
