Recap: Chicago WSox vs. Oakland

Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Tyler Flowers tied the game in the ninth with a solo homer, then won the contest in the 12th with another solo shot as the Chicago White Sox grabbed a 5-4 win over the Oakland Athletics in the opener of a four-game set.

With Jesse Chavez (8-8) on the mound and one out, Flowers clubbed the first pitch he saw over the left-field wall for the win. He had tied the game with a two-out, solo shot off Eric O'Flaherty in the ninth inning.

"It's good for the day, the night," said Flowers. "But after today it doesn't really mean anything, I'm just going to enjoy the moment and get back to work tomorrow."

Conor Gillaspie also homered and Avisail Garcia drove in a run for the White Sox, who snapped a four-game losing streak.

Hector Noesi went 6 1/3 innings in the start and allowed three runs on four hits. Javy Guerra (2-3) pitched two flawless innings for the win.

Josh Reddick hit a two-run home run, Jed Lowrie gave a solo shot and Sam Fuld drove in a run for the Athletics, who have lost five of their last six. Sonny Gray allowed three runs -- two earned -- on four hits over seven innings in the start.

"We were just one out away, but unfortunately they were able to hit a ball out of the park, twice," said Gray.

Chicago scored two runs in the first as Conor Gillaspie reached base on an error from Brandon Moss, scoring Adam Eaton, and a Garcia sacrifice fly plated Alexei Ramirez for a 2-0 lead.

Oakland took the lead in the fifth as Derek Norris singled and Reddick followed with his 11th home run of the season. Lowrie then homered to right for a 3-2 lead.

Gillaspie led off the sixth with a homer to right, his seventh of the season, to make it a 3-3 game.

Oakland went on top in the eighth when Fuld's bunt single scored Billy Burns, who came in as a pinch-runner and stole second before going to third on a Coco Crisp single.
