Recap: Oakland vs. Seattle

Oakland, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Kyle Seager hit a two-run home run and the Seattle Mariners took a 6-5 win over the Oakland Athletics in the second of a three-game set.

Austin Jackson had two hits and drove in two runs, while Endy Chavez also had a pair of RBI for the Mariners, who had dropped five of seven coming in. James Paxton (5-1) got the win after allowing two runs on four hits over 7 2/3 innings.

"This young man's got greatness written all over him," Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon said of Paxton.

Craig Gentry went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI with Sam Fuld, Brandon Moss and Adam Dunn each giving a pinch-hit RBI for the Athletics, who have lost five of their last six games. Sonny Gray (13-8) allowed six runs on seven hits in five innings to take the loss.

"I think he pitched better than his line shows," said Oakland manager Bob Melvin about Gray. "He didn't panic out there when guys got on base, they just put some good swings together."

Paxton gave up a walk to Josh Reddick in the eighth after inducing a double play, and left runners on the corners for Yoervis Median, who gave up an RBI single to Dunn. After a wild pitch moved both runners up, Gentry belted a ground-rule double to make it a 6-3 game.

Fernando Rodney came on to close the game and struck out the first two batters, before three straight doubles from Derek Norris, Moss and Fuld put the go-ahead run at the plate.

Rodney, though, got Josh Reddick to ground out and pick up his 40th save of the season.

Seattle went on top in the third, as walks by Chavez and Brad Miller were followed by a sac bunt from Jesus Sucre. Jackson then belted a single to center for a 2-0 lead.

Kendrys Morales and Logan Morrison had one-out base hits in the fourth before Chavez's double to center made it a 4-0 game.

Robinson Cano singled with two outs in the fifth and Seager's 21st homer of the season made it a 6-0 game.
