Recap: Boston vs. Seattle

Boston, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - Kyle Seager knocked in two runs and scored twice as the Seattle Mariners beat the Boston Red Sox, 8-6, to complete their first ever three-game sweep at Fenway Park.

Brad Miller replaced a dizzy Robinson Cano in the bottom of the third and ended with two RBI for the Mariners, who went 6-3 on a nine-game road trip.

"I don't want him coming out," joked Miller. "But to get out there, I was ready to go. Once you get told you're in, adrenaline (kicks in). I was loose, I was fine."

Seattle starter Hisashi Iwakuma lasted just 2 1/3 innings, allowing five runs on six hits. Dominic Leone (7-2) tossed 2 2/3 scoreless innings of relief to pick up the win.

Will Middlebrooks drove in three runs for the Red Sox, who have lost eight in a row. Yoenis Cespedes went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Boston starter Allen Webster (3-2) gave up six runs on eight hits over 4 1/3 innings.

"The thing that we continue to stress is the unanswered runs," said Red Sox manager John Farrell. "When we score, the ability to then put up a zero is key. For us to snap out of where we are, it's doing to come from more consistency on the mound."

Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz left Sunday's game in the sixth inning, just two frames after fouling a ball off his right foot.

Ortiz singled off the base of the right-field wall in the sixth, but limped badly down the line. Kelly Johnson came on as a pinch-runner for Ortiz.

Each team scored three runs in the first inning. The Mariners put men on the corners with no outs for Cano, who hit a grounder back to the pitcher. Webster went home with the throw and Austin Jackson got caught in a rundown. Kendrys Morales, Seager and Logan Morrison followed with three straight RBI singles.

Brock Holt led off the bottom half with a single, moved to second on Dustin Pedroia's groundout and raced home on Cespedes' single to left. Iwakuma then hit Mike Napoli and Allen Craig to load the bases. Middlebrooks followed with a two-run single to right-center field.

Boston tacked on two more runs in the third. Ortiz walked, advanced to third on Cespedes' double and crossed the plate on Napoli's groundout. Craig reached on an infield single before Middlebrooks' RBI double down the left-field line. Leone came in from the bullpen and worked out of a bases-loaded jam to keep it 5-3.

Seattle got one run back in the fourth on Chris Denorfia's sacrifice fly.

The Mariners scored two runs in the fifth to take the lead. Jackson singled and scored on Dustin Ackley's triple to right-center field. Miller's sac fly made it 6-5 Seattle.

Seager's RBI single in the eighth made it 7-5.

But the Red Sox got the run back in the bottom half. Charlie Furbush gave up an infield single to Holt, who moved to second on a passed ball and scored on Johnson's double. Tom Wilhelmsen came in from the bullpen and stranded men on first and third.

Miller's RBI double in the ninth made it 8-6. Fernando Rodney struck out Johnson with the bases loaded in the bottom half to record his 38th save.
