Recap: Philadelphia vs. Seattle

Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Andres Blanco hit a three-run homer, Jerome Williams tossed seven-plus solid innings and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Seattle Mariners, 4-1, in the opener of a three-game series.

Williams (1-0) picked up his first win in a Phillies uniform after giving up one run on three hits. The right-hander struck out four and walked three in his second start for Philadelphia since being claimed off waivers.

"My game plan really wasn't working earlier in the year, that's why I'm on my third team," Williams said. "We're just using the same weapons I have, but we're just moving the ball everywhere and anywhere. I've had success with that."

Blanco's homer was his first since 2011. Marlon Byrd added an RBI for the Phillies, who had lost seven of nine coming in.

Seattle starter Roenis Elias (9-10) allowed one run on three hits with six walks over four innings. He was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma prior to Monday's game.

Dustin Ackley drove in the lone run for the Mariners, who are playing at Citizens Bank Park for the first time.

The Phillies jumped out to a 1-0 lead on Byrd's RBI double in the third. Elias escaped further damage by striking out Cody Asche with the bases loaded.

Philadelphia had a chance to add to its lead in the fourth, but Ryan Howard grounded out with the bases loaded.

Blanco's homer off reliever Dominic Leone in the fifth made it 4-0 Phillies. Darin Ruf doubled and Asche walked before Blanco's first home run since July 1, 2011, for Texas.

Williams hit Chris Taylor with a pitch to start the eighth. Ken Giles came in from the bullpen and gave up a single to pinch-hitter Endy Chavez and Ackley's double scored Taylor to get Seattle on the board.

Jonathan Papelbon worked around a two-out single in the ninth to record his 29th save of the season.
