Recap: Los Angeles vs. Milwaukee

Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Lyle Overbay delivered a pinch-hit, three-run double in the eighth inning to rally the Milwaukee Brewers to a 6-3 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Scooter Gennett drove in two runs for the Brewers, who have been alone or at least tied for first place in the NL Central every day since April 5. Their lead in the division remained two games over St. Louis.

Overbay's hit capped a five-run frame, giving the Brewers their second straight win.

Milwaukee starter Jimmy Nelson gave up six hits and two runs over six innings, while LA's Zack Greinke was charged with two hits in five scoreless frames. Greinke left after throwing 99 pitches, just 55 for strikes in the opener of this three-game series.

"Getting Zack out early was big. That was important, " Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said. "We had good at-bats, but we couldn't hit him. Lyle has been so good off the bench. That eighth inning was huge."

Yasiel Puig went 3-for-4 with two RBI for the Dodgers, who maintained a 5 1/2 game lead in the NL West after the Giants lost in 10 innings Friday night to Philadelphia.

Brandon Kintzler (2-3) pitched the seventh inning to get the win. Francisco Rodriguez earned his 37th save of the season and 341st of his career. That tied Rollie Fingers, who finished his Hall of Fame career in a Brewers uniform, for 11th most on the all-time list.

Puig singled in Gordon in the fifth, but the Brewers sent nine men to the plate in the eighth. Jamey Wright (4-3) gave up consecutive singles to Ryan Braun, Aramis Ramirez and Gennett, which got the Brewers within a run. Khris Davis then doubled to right-center field to tie the game.

After Mark Reynolds was intentionally walked to fill the bases, Brandon League was summoned from the bullpen, and he fanned pinch-hitter Rickie Weeks. Overbay, hitting for Kintzler, then doubled to the corner in left for a 5-2 lead.

"If you want to be the best, you have to beat the best," Overbay said. "It was a fastball and it was up. I had to swing at it. He made a mistake and I was lucky."

Matt Kemp lifted a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth before Gennett countered that in the ninth with an RBI single.

"I thought Zack was good, but he threw a lot of pitches," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said. "The last two innings didn't go very well. I've asked a lot from Jamey lately, but they got him tonight."

The Dodgers manufactured a run in the first with the help of an error. Dee Gordon legged out an infield hit, stole second and advanced to third on Jonathan Lucroy's throwing miscue before scoring on Puig's base hit to left.

Game Notes

Before the game, the Dodgers placed starting pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu on the 15- day disabled list with a right hip strain ... Pedro Baez, who was called up from the minors to fill the roster spot, pitched the sixth and seventh innings in this game ... Dodgers third baseman Juan Uribe left the game after six innings due to tightness in his right hamstring ... Brewers shortstop Jean Segura suffered a contusion to his right hand in the seventh. On a double-play grounder, Segura went out of the baseline and the ball thrown by shortstop Miguel Rojas hit Segura on his hand.
