Recap: San Diego vs. Atlanta

San Diego, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Everth Cabrera's two-out single in the 10th inning delivered a 4-3 walk-off win for the San Diego Padres and capped a three-game sweep of the Atlanta Braves.

The Padres went up 3-2 in the eighth on Tommy Medica's leadoff homer to left field, but Joaquin Benoit coughed the lead up in the ninth.

Jason Heyward hit a leadoff double before scoring on an error. Benoit fielded Evan Gattis' one-hopper to the mound and made a throw to third that Yangervis Solarte couldn't catch.

San Diego had an opportunity to end the game in the bottom of the ninth, but Jedd Gyorko grounded out to third with the bases loaded.

After Tim Stauffer (4-2) retired the Braves in order, Will Venable opened the 10th by legging out a broken-bat single up the middle of the infield. Alexi Amarista followed with a four-pitch walk, but Rene Rivera bunted into a double play.

Chris Nelson then walked and went to second on a double steal before Cabrera drove a David Hale (3-4) offering to center field to bring home Amarista.

The loss was the sixth straight for the Braves, who have dropped 3 1/2 games behind Washington for the NL East lead.

"I know what this team is capable of. I know what this offense is capable of. It's just getting hits. When we're in the middle of the lineup getting one hit or zero hits, we can't keep the line moving. We're not going to score very many runs," said Atlanta first baseman Freddie Freeman.

San Diego's Tyson Ross and his Atlanta counterpart, Aaron Harang, dueled before giving way to the bullpens.

Ross helped his own cause with two outs in the second, hitting a ground ball up the middle to score Venable.

Cabrera had a sacrifice fly in the fourth. Right fielder Jason Heyward made a diving grab on the play with the bases loaded.

Ross tossed six scoreless innings before the 2-0 lead quickly evaporated in the seventh. He walked Justin Upton and served up an RBI triple to Heyward, who scored on a Gattis double.

"They jumped on me after (the leadoff walk)," Ross said. "Heyward put a good swing on it and I left a pitch up to Gattis."

Nick Vincent took over for Ross and gave up a double to Chris Johnson. Thinking the ball might be caught, Gattis didn't initially run and wound up stopping at third.

A walk to Ramiro Pena loaded the bases with no outs, but Vincent escaped the jam with a strikeout and a double play.

Game Notes

Ross allowed two runs on five hits with seven strikeouts and two walks in six- plus innings ... He has thrown nine consecutive games of six or more innings while giving up two or fewer runs ... Harang limited the Padres to two runs on five hits and walked four in six full frames ... Atlanta was swept in its previous trip to Petco Park (June 10-12, 2013).
