Recap: Tampa Bay vs. Milwaukee

St. Petersburg, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Jake Odorizzi tossed seven solid innings and the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Milwaukee Brewers, 2-1, in the opener of a three-game series.

Odorizzi (7-8) gave up one run on three hits while striking out five for the Rays, who are 10-1 since July 12. The right-hander has won three straight starts and is 5-1 in his past six decisions.

"I don't want to say it's humbling but it really is," said Odorizzi. "After the way I started this season, to how it is now, you can see both sides of the coin, really good and really bad. You just have to pay attention to what you do when you see the good side of the coin."

James Loney hit a two-run single in the sixth for Tampa Bay.

Mark Reynolds hit a solo homer for the Brewers, who saw starter Kyle Lohse (11-5) give up two runs on four hits over six innings. Lohse, who had won back-to-back starts, struck out six and walked three.

"It's tough when you're not consistently scoring runs," said Milwaukee manager Ron Roenicke. "I mean, we came up against a guy who was pitching really good, but you should be able to get more than three hits."

Reynolds' homer in the third made it 1-0 Milwaukee. The Brewers put a runner on second with two outs later in the inning, but Jonathan Lucroy grounded out.

The Rays took the lead in the sixth. Ben Zobrist walked, Matt Joyce singled and Evan Longoria walked to load the bases with two outs. Loney followed with a two-run single to right-center field.

After Brad Boxberger struck out the side in the eighth, Jake McGee tossed a scoreless ninth for his 12th save of the season.

Game Notes

The Rays activated reliever Joel Peralta from the 15-day disabled list and designated left-hander Erik Bedard for assignment on Monday ... The Rays had six hits, compared to three for the Brewers ... Lohse fell to 5-4 lifetime against the Rays.
