Recap: Kansas City vs. Cleveland

Kansas City, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - Billy Butler's go-ahead two-run homer in the fifth inning helped lead the Kansas City Royals to a 7-5 victory over the Cleveland Indians on Saturday.

Nori Aoki hit a two-run triple and scored once, while Omar Infante and Alcides Escobar also drove in a run for the Royals, who have taken the first three games of this four-game series and five straight overall.

"We started out a little slow, but we've been picking things up and are starting to look like we're getting things together," said Butler.

Jeremy Guthrie (6-9) gave up five runs, all in the second inning, on 10 hits with two walks and four strikeouts in 5 2/3 frames.

Jason Kipnis drove in two while Carlos Santana hit a solo home run for the Indians, who have lost six of their last seven games. Zach McAllister (3-6) was torched for six runs -- five earned -- on eight hits over four-plus innings in defeat after being called up from the minors for the third time this month.

"We've played some close games here and Kansas City is a good team," said McAllister. "Their bullpen pitches extremely well and they've got some good hitters in the lineup."

Cleveland took a 5-0 lead in the second inning. Santana led off with his 18th homer of the season and after the next two batters recorded outs, Yan Gomes singled and David Murphy walked. A single from Mike Aviles scored one and Kipnis chased home two more with a double. Two batters later, Michael Brantley doubled home Kipnis.

The Royals got one run back in the third as Escobar led off with a single, moved to third on Aoki's single, and came home on a fielder's choice by Infante.

In the fourth, Escobar hit a two-out single with two men on to score a run and Aoki followed with a triple down the right field line. Aoki then came home on a passed ball allowed by Gomes to tie the game.

Kansas City went ahead in the fifth as Butler hit his two-run home run off Nick Hagadone for a 7-5 lead.

The Indians didn't get a runner past second base after the second inning, leaving men on first and second in the seventh and eighth.

Greg Holland pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to pick up his 27th save of the season.
