Recap: LA Angels vs. Detroit

Anaheim, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Efren Navarro's go-ahead single in the sixth inning lifted the Los Angeles Angels to a 2-1 victory over the Detroit Tigers in the second contest of a four-game set on Friday.

Navarro replaced left fielder Josh Hamilton, who left the game with a sore left knee in the fourth inning, and finished with two hits while Kole Calhoun provided an RBI double for the Angels, who have won two of their last three games.

Reliever Mike Morin (3-3) earned the win after escaping a bases-loaded threat with a strikeout in the sixth. Starter Tyler Skaggs gave up a run on five hits with five strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings.

Miguel Cabrera homered among his two hits and starter Drew Smyly (6-9) was tagged with the loss after giving up two runs on four hits with a career-high 11 strikeouts across 5 2/3 frames for Detroit, which had its two-game win streak snapped.

"I thought Smyly pitched well," said Tigers manager Brad Ausmus. "The ball that Navarro hit was off the end of his bat and found a hole."

Smyly retired the first 13 batters he faced before Howie Kendrick hit a double to right with one out in the fifth, but the Angels' bats woke up in the sixth.

Back-to-back one-out doubles from Chris Iannetta and Calhoun evened the score at 1-1. After Mike Trout struck out, Albert Pujols was intentionally walked and Navarro gave the Angels the lead with a single up the middle.

"I made some adjustments from my first at-bat when he struck me out," Navarro said. "He threw me a curveball and I was able to get it with a seeing-eye single."

Huston Street tossed a scoreless ninth for his second save as a member of the Angels.

In the fourth, Cabrera crushed a fastball into the left-field seats for his 16th home run of the season and a 1-0 Tigers lead.

Detroit loaded the bases in the sixth. Cabrera and Victor Martinez both hit two-out singles to chase Skaggs from the game and J.D. Martinez reached on third baseman David Freese's fielding error, but Morin struck out Torii Hunter to escape the jam.

Game Notes

Hunter extended his hitting streak to seven games ... The Angels' streak of eight straight games decided by two runs or fewer is the Angels longest streak since 2008 ... The Angels have won 11 of the last 14 games in the series and snapped a three-game losing streak to the Tigers.
