Recap: Colorado vs. San Diego

Denver, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Franklin Morales and four relievers limited the San Diego Padres to a run on eight hits in the Colorado Rockies' 2-1 win on Tuesday.

Morales (5-4) helped Colorado's struggling pitching staff get back on track, yielding the lone run while striking out six over 5 2/3 innings. The Rockies had allowed 30 runs over their last four games.

Tyson Ross (7-9), who will be San Diego's lone representative in the All-Star Game next week, was charged with two runs on six hits over six innings. Ross is limping into the All-Star break, having lost five of his last six decisions.

Colorado has a chance to win its first series since a three-game sweep of the Giants from June 13-15 in Wednesday's rubber match.

Morales pitched around a leadoff double in the top of the first inning, striking out three batters. He allowed just three hits and three walks over the rest of his outing.

"(Morales) seemed to make a pitch when he needed to," said Padres manager Bud Black. "He scattered some balls around the hitting area, he was mixing pitches. He got us out."

Charlie Blackmon provided all the offense Morales would need, belting a two- run homer in the home portion of the third inning. D.J. LeMahieu reached on an infield single to start the frame and Blackmon dug out a low breaking ball two batters later, lifting it over the wall in right.

"It wasn't a bad pitch," Blackmon said. "I did kind of have to come out of my swing to get to it. It wasn't my best swing, but I was able to stay on it and get the barrel on it. That happened to be just enough to get it out."

Rene Rivera's homer to left in the top of the sixth inning chased Morales from the contest, but the Padres' bats were silenced the rest of the way.

Their best chance came in the seventh inning against Rex Brothers. Alexi Amarista and Chris Denorfia singled to put two on, but the lefty got Chase Headley to line out to center, ending the threat.

Adam Ottavino pitched around a one-out single to get out of the eighth and LaTroy Hawkins nailed down his 16th save despite giving up a double to pinch- hitter Seth Smith in the ninth. Denorfia lined out to right to end the game.

Game Notes

Colorado improved to 16-2 when scoring first at home this season ... Morales won for the first time since June 7 ... Ross fell to 0-2 in his last four starts against the Rockies ... The Padres had won six of eight ... Denorfia went 3-for-5 ... San Diego finished 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position and stranded nine.
