Recap: Chicago WSox vs. Seattle

Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Hector Noesi fired 6 2/3 innings of scoreless ball and the Chicago White Sox edged the Seattle Mariners, 1-0, in the rubber match of a three-game set.

Noesi (3-6) struck out five, scattered five hits and walked two for Chicago, which recorded just two hits.

"He was good, had a great changeup, had a great feel for it," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said of Noesi. "He's a tough kid. He's confident and knows what he can do."

Jake Petricka tossed two perfect innings to notch his third save of the season.

Taijuan Walker (1-1) gave up a run on two hits and five walks over four frames for the Mariners, who had won four in a row coming into the set.

"I just really got to find the fastball. That's my best pitch, I just got to watch film, lock in and try to figure out what's going on," Walker said.

The White Sox opened the scoring with a two-out run in the first and held on from there.

Connor Gillaspie worked a walk and Jose Abreu singled to put runners on the corners. Walker's 3-2 pitch to Adam Dunn got away from him, sailing well over catcher John Buck, which allowed Gillaspie to score and make it 1-0.

Chicago's only other hit came in the second inning.

Seattle, meanwhile, put runners in scoring position in every frame but the first, eighth and ninth. The visitors finished 0-for-11 with runners in scoring position.

The Mariners' best opportunity to score came in the seventh when they loaded the bases with two outs for Robinson Cano, but he flied out to center.

Adam Eaton made a nice diving catch on a slicing liner earmarked for the gap in right-center off the bat of Corey Hart to prevent a sure leadoff double in the eighth.

Game Notes

The White Sox went 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base ... Noesi picked up his first win since beating the Detroit Tigers on June 9 ... Second base umpire Dana DeMuth left the game in the fifth inning after colliding with White Sox second baseman Gordon Beckham. The game continued with three umpires.
