Recap: LA Angels vs. Minnesota

Anaheim, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Mike Trout's two-run homer helped lead the LA Angels of Anaheim to a 8-6 victory over the Minnesota Twins in the opener of a three-game set.

Josh Hamilton and Howie Kendrick both had two hits, two RBI and a run scored for the Angels, who have won four straight and five of their last six.

Starter C.J. Wilson (8-6) earned the win despite allowing six runs on nine hits with four strikeouts across five innings.

"I had to try to make them miss," Wilson said. "It was the best luck to get all that run support."

Josh Willingham and Kendrys Morales supplied consecutive home runs to start the second and Danny Santana doubled twice for Minnesota, which saw its four- game win streak come to an end.

Kyle Gibson (6-6) was tagged with the loss after giving up seven runs on four hits and two walks in just two innings of work.

"They got to Kyle early, it was a rough night for him," said Twins manager Ron Gardenhire. "He just couldn't get anything working."

Kole Calhoun and Trout both walked and Albert Pujols reached on a fielder's choice before Hamilton's single scored Calhoun and Trout in the first inning. Erick Aybar was hit by a pitch to reload the bases.

Kendrick brought in two runs with a single and C.J. Cron grounded into a double play that scored Aybar, giving the Halos an early 5-0 lead.

The Twins tied it in the second. Willingham and Morales smacked back-to-back shots to lead off the frame. Eduardo Escobar reached on a fielder's choice, moved to second on Wilson's botched pickoff attempt and scored on Sam Fuld's base hit.

After Fuld stole second, Santana drove him in with a double to right and Brian Dozier's RBI single made it a 5-5 game.

Trout put the Angels ahead 7-5 in the second with a two-run shot to right- center field.

The Twins got within one in the fifth. Dozier led off with a single to left and Joe Mauer doubled to left. Two batters later, Morales' deep sacrifice fly to center brought in Dozier.

Calhoun's sac fly made it an 8-6 game in the eighth before Joe Smith tossed a scoreless ninth for his sixth save of the season. Mauer grounded out to leave Dozier stranded at second.
