Recap: Los Angeles vs. Arizona

Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Fans let out a joyous celebration in the sixth inning, and then the Dodgers held off the Arizona Diamondbacks, 4-3, in the opener of a three-game set Friday.

Matt Kemp hit a two-run homer in the second for Los Angeles, and the Dodger Stadium crowd roared in elation four innings later when the Kings finished off the New York Rangers in double-overtime to win the Stanley Cup in five games.

Clayton Kershaw (6-2) allowed eight hits and a run while fanning seven over seven innings. Kershaw won his third straight start and LA snapped a two-game skid.

"Kersh battled and as the game moved on he got better," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said. "Matt got us going tonight and that was big for us."

Aaron Hill went 3-for-5 with two RBI for Arizona. Tuffy Gosewisch had three hits and drove in a run for the Diamondbacks, who have lost three in a row. Gerardo Parra totaled three hits.

Chase Anderson (5-1), who was the first Diamondbacks rookie to win his first five big league starts, surrendered four hits and a pair of runs in five innings.

Hill singled to left field to drive in Parra in the ninth. Kenley Jansen then fanned Martin Prado and Cody Ross flied out to right to end the game. Jansen picked up his 18th save.

Kemp's homer to center in the second plated Adrian Gonzalez, but Hill cut the margin in half with an RBI double in the third.

"I left a changeup up and he got it," Anderson said of Kemp's homer. "I'm going to take this game and learn from it."

In the bottom of the sixth, fans watching the Stanley Cup game exploded in jubilation and then the Dodger Stadium videoboard lit up with a message to salute the Kings.

Gonzalez singled in Hanley Ramirez in the seventh, but Gosewisch's base hit the following frame brought in Hill for a 3-2 margin.

Pinch-hitter Justin Turner hit a soft liner to right-center for a single to knock in A.J. Ellis in the eighth.

"Clayton did a great job," Ellis said. "He found a way to compete and win even when he doesn't have his best stuff. Usually when we get a lead for Clayton we're in good shape."
