Recap: Milwaukee vs. Minnesota

Milwaukee, WI (SportsNetwork.com) - Matt Garza struck out eight over 6 1/3 scoreless innings, while Jonathan Lucroy clubbed a solo homer among his three hits to help the Milwaukee Brewers claim a 6-2 win over the Minnesota Twins on Monday at Miller Park.

Garza (3-4) scattered six hits and two walks over his stellar outing to pick up his first win since May 5, snapping a personal four-start winless streak.

Lucroy finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored, while Mark Reynolds slugged a two-run homer for the Brewers, who snapped a five-game slide against the Twins with their fifth win in six games overall.

Milwaukee will also host Tuesday's contest before traveling to Target Field for two more tilts to complete this four-game, home-and-home series.

Kyle Gibson (4-5) absorbed the loss after giving up four runs on six hits over six innings for the Twins, who took two of three from the New York Yankees over the weekend.

Joe Mauer registered three hits and scored once, while Josh Willingham went 2- for-2 with an RBI in the setback.

Gibson retired the Brewers in order his first time through the lineup, but Jean Segura opened the fourth with a bunt single for Milwaukee's first hit.

After moving to second on Ryan Braun's tapper back to the mound, Segura scored when Lucroy laced a single to center. The Brewers backstop advanced to second on center fielder Danny Santana's throw to plate before scoring on Carlos Gomez's base hit back up the middle to make it 2-0 Milwaukee.

"He was tough," Lucroy said of Gibson. "We had to see him up (in the zone). We got it done."

Garza then fanned Mauer on three pitches with runners on second and third to end the fifth before Scooter Gennett opened the home half with a double and scored when Reynolds muscled a first-pitch fastball over the wall in right.

"I think (Garza) likes those one-on-one confrontations," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said, referring to Garza striking out Mauer with two men on. "He likes the challenge and you could see that. He would reach back and get a little something extra."

Milwaukee added an insurance run in the seventh, as Segura stepped to the plate with two outs and the bases loaded and slapped a chopper to third baseman Trevor Plouffe, who fired high to first, allowing Segura to reach safely while Khris Davis crossed the plate to extend the margin to 5-0.

Willingham's two-out infield single scored Mauer in the eighth to get the Twins on the board, but Lucroy led off the home half with a shot over the wall in right-center field to restore Milwaukee's five-run lead.

Minnesota briefly rallied in the ninth against reliever Rob Wooten, as Eduardo Escobar and Santana opened the frame with back-to-back singles. Wooten then induced a double-play groundout from pinch-hitter Josmil Pinto, but Brian Dozier reached on an infield single to score Escobar from third.

Zach Duke promptly replaced Wooten and struck out Mauer to end the game.
