Recap: Milwaukee vs. Chicago Cubs

Milwaukee, WI (SportsNetwork.com) - Anthony Rizzo hit a pair of two-run homers to help power the Chicago Cubs past the Milwaukee Brewers, 8-0, in the middle tilt of a three-game set at Miller Park.

Chris Coghlan, John Baker, Darwin Barney and Emilio Bonifacio each drove in a run for Chicago, which snapped its three-game losing skid.

Jason Hammel (6-3) fired seven scoreless innings of four-hit ball with eight strikeouts to move to 5-0 in six all-time starts against Milwaukee.

"We got a nice start by Hammel. He set the tone and gave us seven really, really good innings," said Cubs manager Rick Renteria.

Wily Peralta (4-5), who is 0-4 over his last five starts, was tagged for six runs on five hits and two walks in 5 2/3 innings of work.

Scooter Gennett collected two of the four hits for the Brewers, who had a three-game win streak snapped.

"We're going to have good games most of the time and sometimes we're going to have games with a really tough pitcher," said Brewers manager Ron Roenicke.

Rizzo smacked a full-count fastball for a two-run home run to right-center field in the fourth. Bonifacio reached base on a leadoff single and was called safe at second on what looked like a Junior Lake double play. The Brewers challenged but the call was upheld.

In the sixth inning, Rizzo crushed another two-run homer on a full count to right field, this time with two outs. Hammel singled to begin the inning.

Starlin Castro followed with a double to left field and Nate Schierholtz was walked to end the day for Peralta. Coghlan and Baker each connected on RBI singles off reliever Zach Duke. Barney doubled to center to cap off the two- out rally and give the Cubs a 7-0 cushion.

The Cubs added a run in the ninth on a two-out RBI base hit from Bonifacio. Justin Ruggiano tripled to reach base.

Milwaukee's only opportunity with a runner in scoring position came in the fourth when Carlos Gomez reached third with two outs, but Khris Davis flied out to center to end the inning.

Game Notes
