Recap: Oakland vs. LA Angels

Oakland, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Yoenis Cespedes hit a three-run homer and a two-run triple, finishing a single shy of the cycle, and the Athletics rallied with two big innings to beat the Angels 11-3 on Saturday.

Cespedes' triple came during a six-run seventh inning that was sparked by Kyle Blanks' leadoff homer and gave the A's a 7-3 lead. His homer came in the eighth inning with the game all but in hand.

Earlier, Cespedes threw a runner out at home plate. His all-around performance helped give the A's their fourth win in six games, including the first two of this three-game series.

Left-hander Tommy Milone, unbeaten now in five straight starts, pitched six innings but Fernando Rodriguez (1-0) got the win with a scoreless seventh.

"Today was one of those mediocre ones," Milone said. "It's nice to come away with a quality start and keep the team in the game."

Angels lefty Tyler Skaggs (4-3) took the loss, charged with four runs on five hits and five walks in six-plus innings. He struck out seven.

Collin Cowgill hit a three-run homer for the Angels, who fell to 2-4 on a 10- game homestand. Mike Trout, riding an 11-game hitting streak, was scratched from the game because of a stiff upper back.

"They played us tough this year," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "They're a good team over there, but we're going to have a chance to matchup with them and get it done."

Blanks homered on the first pitch in the seventh inning to spark Oakland's six-run outburst and pinch-hitter Coco Crisp and Nick Punto followed with consecutive singles to chase Skaggs from the game.

After the runners moved up on Craig Gentry's sacrifice bunt, Joe Smith intentionally walked Jed Lowrie to load the bases. One run came home on Josh Donaldson's ground out and two scored on Cespedes' opposite-field triple over Kole Calhoun's head in right, giving the A's a 5-3 lead.

Derek Norris drew a walk after that and Alberto Callaspo followed with a two- run double to make it 7-3.

Gentry hit an RBI single off Michael Kohn in the eighth, extending Oakland's lead to five runs.

The Angels had five hits in the first two innings but didn't score. In the second inning, Cespedes gunned down Chris Iannetta at home plate with a strong throw from left field as Iannetta tried to score from second base on Cowgill's single.

"It was a huge momentum shift for us to still be in the game," said A's coach Bob Melvin. "It felt like we should have been down five or six to nothing."

Anaheim finally broke through on Cowgill's three-run blast off Milone in the fourth inning, his third homer of the season.

The A's cut their deficit to 3-1 on Norris' sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth. Donaldson scored on the play after drawing a one-out walk and moving to third base on Cespedes' double -- Oakland's first hit off Skaggs.
