Recap: Atlanta vs. Cincinnati

Atlanta, GA (SportsNetwork.com) - Freddie Freeman ripped an RBI single to center in the 10th inning to lead the Atlanta Braves to a 1-0 win over the Cincinnati Reds and a sweep of the three-game set.

Jason Heyward hit a two-out single up the middle and B.J. Upton followed with a broken-bat single off the glove of pitcher J.J. Hoover (1-3) before Freeman drove in Heyward for the win.

The marquee pitching showdown between the Reds' Johnny Cueto and the Braves' Julio Teheran lived up to the billing. The starters matched one another through eight scoreless innings, allowing just three hits apiece.

Teheran, who has yet to allow more than two earned runs this season, struck out five and walked two in the contest. Ian Thomas (1-0) got the lone batter he faced to fly out in the top of the 10th and was credited with the win.

Cueto, coming off two straight complete games, fanned 11 and walked three. He has surrendered just one run and struck out 27 over his last 26 frames.

Justin Upton had a double on two hits and Andrelton Simmons added a double for Atlanta, which will travel to Miami for a three-game set against the Marlins on Tuesday.

"April is going about as good as it can go. There's nothing else you can really say about it, except that we need to keep working towards playing the way we've been playing," said Atlanta's Dan Uggla.

Ryan Ludwick went 2-for-4 with a double and Brayan Pena added a double for the only other extra-base hit for the Reds, who will host the Chicago Cubs Monday to open a three-game series.

With two outs and runners on first and second in the first inning, Brandon Phillips almost succumbed to the sun on a pop fly but was able to secure the ball in his throwing hand after it bounced off his glove.

B.J. Upton lost a fly ball in the sun with two outs in the second as it hit off the heel of his glove and Pena was awarded a double. Teheran then struck out Zack Cozart to get out of the inning.

Cincinnati had a chance to score in the fifth after Ludwick's leadoff double. Teheran, however, got Pena to fly out and recorded back-to-back strikeouts to end the inning.

"It's still early," said Phillips. "I'm not really worried about anything. That's just how baseball goes. We just didn't take advantage of the situations. We still got a long season, man."

The Braves threatened in the bottom half of the fifth when Simmons smacked a one-out ground rule double to right, Gerald Laird walked and Teheran advanced both runners with a bunt. Cueto, however, struck out Heyward to work out of the jam.

Game Notes

Reds manager Bryan Price earned his first ejection in the first inning after he protested a challenge ruling ... The Reds went 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position.
