Recap: Toronto vs. Boston

Toronto, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - R.A. Dickey spun 6 1/3 innings of one-run ball to lead the Toronto Blue Jays to a 7-1 win over the Boston Red Sox to avoid a three-game sweep at Rogers Centre.

Dickey (2-3) scattered five hits and struck out six without issuing a walk to snap a three-start winless streak.

"When I have one to two to zero walks, it's usually going to be a pretty good day, and that's what I need to get back to, and like I said, today was a good step in that direction," said Dickey.

Brett Lawrie went 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBI, Edwin Encarnacion added a pair of doubles and two RBI and Melky Cabrera finished 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for the Blue Jays, who had dropped four straight entering the contest.

Jackie Bradley Jr. provided the only meaningful offense for Boston with an RBI single in the second inning.

Jon Lester (2-4) was touched for four runs on five hits and stuck out seven over seven innings to absorb the loss.

"Once again [Lester] worked deep into the ballgame and gave us an opportunity to win," Red Sox manager John Farrell said. "He has been the one guy in our rotation where runs are a premium and are seemingly hard to come by."

Boston got on the board in the second inning. Jonny Gomes and Xander Bogaerts hit back-to-back singles with two outs to put runners on first and second for Bradley, who dropped a base hit into shallow left that bounced high off the turf, allowing Gomes to score easily.

Lawrie's solo homer in the home half tied the game. After working a full count, Lawrie crushed a cutter into the stands in left-center field.

The Blue Jays took the lead on Cabrera's RBI double in the third. Josh Thole singled to open the inning and moved to second on Jonathan Diaz's sacrifice but. After Jose Reyes struck out, Cabrera punched one down the line in right to bring Thole around.

Dickey ran into some trouble in the seventh inning. He hit Will Middlebrooks with a pitch to open the inning and after getting Gomes to pop out, Bogaerts doubled to left to put runners at second and third.

Steve Delabar came in to replace Dickey and retired the next two hitters to get out of the jam.

Toronto plated two in the bottom of the seventh and three in the eighth to break the game open.

In the seventh, Encarnacion doubled then scored when Lawrie laced a double into the left-field corner. Lawrie moved up to third on Juan Francisco's fly out before scoring on Moises Sierra's ground out to the pitcher. Sierra chopped one that bounced high off the turf and Lawrie, who was moving on contact, scored without a play at the plate.

Reyes and Cabrera hit back-to-back singles to put runners on the corners with one out in the eighth. Bautista then ripped a grounder up the middle and Bogaerts made a sliding attempt for it, but couldn't come up with the ball allowing Reyes to score. Encarnacion followed with a double off the wall in center to bring Cabrera and Bautista around for a 7-1 lead.

Esmil Rogers struckout the side in order in the ninth to seal the win.
