Recap: Chicago WSox vs. Cleveland

Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Jose Abreu knocked in three runs on a pair of homers, helping the Chicago White Sox post a 7-3 victory over the Cleveland Indians to end a string of 14 consecutive losses to their AL Central rivals.

Alexei Ramirez also had a pair of hits, including a solo homer, and his two- run double in the fourth inning snapped a 3-3 tie before John Danks and two relievers finished off the opener of this four-game series.

Danks (1-0) rebounded from a rocky start to hold the Indians to three runs over six innings, with Daniel Webb and Matt Lindstrom not allowing a baserunner over the final three frames.

Adam Eaton went 2-for-4 with an RBI single for Chicago, which hadn't bested the Tribe since Apr. 24 of last season and found out prior to the contest that starting right fielder Avisail Garcia would require season-ending surgery for a shoulder injury he sustained in Wednesday's loss at Colorado.

Cleveland's Danny Salazar (0-1) racked up 10 strikeouts in just 3 2/3 innings, but served up two of the White Sox' three homers and was tagged for five runs overall.

"When (Salazar) made a mistake, because they had seen so many pitches, they did some damage with them," Cleveland manager Terry Francona said of Salazar's struggles.

Asdrubal Cabrera finished 2-for-4 with a solo homer and two runs scored for the Indians, with Ryan Raburn also collecting two hits and an RBI in the loss, Cleveland's fourth in six outings after a 3-1 start.

Salazar fanned six of the first seven Chicago hitters and was staked to a 3-1 lead after 2 1/2 innings, but quickly coughed it up in the bottom of the third. Ramirez drilled a homer to left to begin the White Sox' half of the frame and Adrian Nieto reached on a single before advancing on a wild pitch, which was followed by Eaton's base hit to right that knotted the score.

The young righty ran into more trouble an inning later, surrendering a single to Dayan Viciedo and walking Alejandro De Aza prior to Ramirez sending both runners home with a long double into the gap in right center.

Abreu made it a 6-3 game by slugging his second homer of the game and fourth in three days, a line-drive shot off reliever Josh Outman in the fifth.

Danks, meanwhile, didn't have his night start off well, as Cabrera smacked his second pitch of the game for a double and Nick Swisher drew a walk in front of Jason Kipnis' RBI single. Swisher later crossed the plate on a Raburn sac fly to quickly give Cleveland a 2-0 edge.

Abreu, the only batter to make contact off Salazar through the first two innings, cut the deficit in half with a mammoth homer in the second, but Cabrera countered with a long ball of his own to open the third for a 3-1 Indians' advantage.

Danks kept Cleveland off the board over the remainder of his stint, finishing it off by getting Yan Gomes to fly out with two aboard in the top of the sixth and the tying run at the plate.

"I feel like from the third inning on I was able to throw the ball where I wanted to," Danks said. "It was kind of a tale of two games, but like I said, I've never had a bad win."

Chicago tacked on an insurance run in the seventh, with Eaton leading off with a double and eventually coming home on Abreu's fielder's choice grounder.
