Recap: Houston vs. NY Yankees

Houston, TX (Sports Network) - David Adams delivered a two-run double as part of a three-run fourth inning, as the New York Yankees edged the Houston Astros, 3-2, in the opener of three-game set at Minute Maid Park.

New York did all its damage in the fourth, with Mark Reynolds ripping an RBI single to start the rally before scoring on Adams' two-bagger to right to help the Yankees put the brakes on a four-game losing streak.

Adam Warren (3-2), making just his third big league start, held Houston scoreless over five innings of two-hit, one-walk ball to pick up the win.

"I think I've learned and kind of proved to myself that I can pitch at this level," Warren said. "I just wanted to go out there and finish strong and end on a good note."

Brett Wallace plated both Houston runs with a pinch-hit double in the seventh, but it wasn't enough to keep the Astros from dropping their 13th straight game.

Brett Oberholtzer (4-5) was charged for all three runs -- two earned -- on five hits and one walk over 5 1/3 frames to absorb the loss.

"He kind of ran to the end of his tank," Astros manager Bo Porter said of his starter. "He was a little bit gassed there."

Oberholtzer held New York to one hit over the first three frames before Robinson Cano clubbed a one-out single in the fourth and Alfonso Soriano followed with a walk.

Reynolds then ripped a base hit to left to score Cano and after both runners moved up a base on Matt Dominguez's throw to the plate, Adams drilled a two- run double off the right-field wall to make it 3-0.

Houston finally broke through in the seventh, as Chris Carter worked a leadoff walk and L.J. Hoes followed two batters later with a single to center.

After Carlos Corporan flied out for the second out, Joba Chamberlain entered from the bullpen and was greeted by Wallace, who scorched a pinch-hit double to deep center to plate a pair and bring the Astros within 3-2.

Jonathan Villar followed with a single and swiped second before Jose Altuve walked to load the bases, but Chamberlain got Dominguez to fly out to center to end the inning with New York clinging to a one-run edge.

Preston Claiborne then worked around a leadoff walk in the eighth before David Robertson spun a 1-2-3 ninth to nail down his third save of the season.
