New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - New York Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia will reportedly be sidelined until at least July because of his knee issues.
Sabathia went on the 15-day disabled list May 11 with right knee inflammation and Yankees general manager Brian Cashman told the New York Post on Monday that the lefty recently underwent a stem-cell treatment injection.
The procedure, performed by Dr. James Andrews, will keep Sabathia sidelined for at least six weeks.
Cashman told the paper that Sabathia has been using crutches and will begin exercises in a pool to build strength in the knee.
Sabathia has struggled to a record of 3-4 with a 5.28 ERA in eight starts this season.
