Phoenix, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - Juli Inkster was selected to lead the 2015 U.S. Solheim Cup on Tuesday. The LPGA made the announcement at the site of this week's Founders Cup tournament.

Inkster is the most decorated United States player in Solheim Cup history. She played in nine Solheim Cups, second only to England's Laura Davies. Inkster played in 34 matches and won 15 matches, both numbers are third most in event history and most by an American.

"The first thing I asked her, was I need a favor," LPGA Tour commissioner Mike Whan said. "I normally ask at Solheim Cup meetings how the players will react, but I didn't ask this time because I knew (they'd love it)."

Inkster, a 2000 World Golf Hall of Fame, inductee won seven singles matches, the most in Solheim Cup history and her 18 1/2 points earned are the most by an American.

"The Solheim Cup is all about camaraderie and teamsmenship, and hopefully we'll see a lot of that in Germany," Inkster stated. "When Mike called, I was ecstatic. The Solheim is a lot about who I am as a player and a person. We're going in as one and coming out as one."

When Inkster played in the 2011 Solheim Cup, she became the oldest competitor in event history at the age of 51 years, two months and 30 days.

Inkster, who also served as a playing assistant captain in 2011, totaled 31 victories on the LPGA Tour, including seven major championships. The United States went 5-4 in her nine Solheim Cups as a player, but has lost the last two.

"I've seen you as a partner, but I have no idea what to expect out of you as a captain," joked Paula Creamer, who went 3-2-1 while paired with Inkster over three Solheim Cups.

Inkster immediately selected Pat Hurst as an assistant captain. Hurst, the 1995 LPGA Tour Rookie of the Year, went 10-7-3 in five Solheim Cup appearances. Hurst owns six LPGA Tour titles, including one major championship.

The 2015 Solheim Cup will take place September 18-20 at St. Leon-Rot Golf Club in Germany. The European captain will be announced on April 11 in Frankfurt.
