Recap: Rice vs. Tulane
Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Jowan Davis rushed for 57 yards and an important score as the Rice Owls clinched a spot in the Conference USA title game with a 17-13 win over the Tulane Green Wave at Rice Stadium.
Charles Ross added 80 yards on 15 carries and Taylor McHargue threw for 180 yards and a touchdown on 14-of-28 passing for Rice (9-3, 7-1 C-USA).
Nick Montana threw for only 97 yards and a touchdown on 14-of-31 passing for Tulane (7-5, 5-3). Orleans Darkwa managed only 26 yards on 14 carries.
Tulane took an early, 3-0, lead with a 30-yard field goal from Cairo Santos.
The Owls responded with a 19-yard touchdown pass from McHargue to Turner Petersen.
Davis scored on a 16-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter.
Chris Boswell would tack on a 36-yard field goal before halftime to lift the Owls to a 17-3 advantage.
Devon Breaux caught a 13-yard touchdown pass fro Montana late in the third quarter and Santos connected on a 32-yard field goal in the early stages of the fourth quarter.
Tulane had two more drives to post a go-ahead score but both possessions stalled allowing Rice to escape.
The close score was not indicative of the difference in total yards as Rice had 304 to only 123 from the Green Wave.Game Notes
