Recap: So Carolina vs. Miss State

Columbia, SC (SportsNetwork.com) - Connor Shaw threw four touchdown passes and the 14th-ranked South Carolina Gamecocks tied a school record with their 15th straight home victory, a 34-16 win over the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

Shaw completed 10-of-20 passes for 147 yards for the Gamecocks (7-2, 5-2 SEC), who also won 15 in a row at home from 1978-80.

"Our players love to play at home, there's no place like it," Shaw said. "Our fan base is the best in the country, and I think we've proven that with 15 wins at home."

Mike Davis carried the ball 15 times for 128 yards for South Carolina, which recorded a thrilling double-overtime victory over Missouri last week. Shaq Roland caught two passes for 57 yards and two scores.

Dak Prescott connected on 28-of-43 passes for 235 yards and three interceptions for the Bulldogs (4-4, 1-3), who had a brief two-game winning streak snapped. He also carried the ball 15 times for 78 yards and two touchdowns.

"Obviously, it's a very disappointing day when we get 11 more first downs than them. We had a lot better pass completion, more yards, and more plays," Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen said. "The difference was we turned the ball over five times, and your percentage of winning, after doing that on the road in the SEC is very low."

Holding a 17-10 lead at the half, the Gamecocks pulled away with a 17-point third quarter. Prescott fumbled on the second play of the second half, which led to Damiere Byrd's 6-yard TD catch.

South Carolina scored again on its next possession. Davis' 43-yard run and 30- yard catch put the ball at the Mississippi State 6-yard line. Two plays later, Jerell Adams caught a 4-yard touchdown pass from Shaw for a 31-10 margin.

Prescott was then intercepted by Chaz Elder near midfield. The Gamecocks got a 37-yard field goal from Elliott Fry to make it a 34-10 contest with over two minutes left in the third stanza.

Prescott made up for his mistake with an 11-yard TD run with 5:38 left in the fourth quarter. The two-point conversion failed.

Robert Johnson fumbled on Mississippi State's next series.

Mississippi State's first possession of the game resulted in a touchdown. The visitors moved the ball to the South Carolina 1-yard line on Prescott's 15- yard run. On the ninth play of the series, Prescott used his legs to record the first points of the contest.

It took the Gamecocks just five plays to answer with a touchdown of their own. Davis' 23-yard run and Byrd's 19-yard catch preceded Roland's 14-yard TD grab.

With less than three minutes left in the first quarter, Prescott was intercepted by Skai Moore near midfield. Three plays later, Roland caught a 43-yard touchdown pass from Shaw to make it 14-7 South Carolina.

Prescott was picked off by T.J. Holloman in the early stages of the second stanza and that turnover led to Fry's 44-yard field goal.

Mississippi State got within seven, 17-10, on Evan Sobiesk's 38-yard field goal with 4:15 left in the first half.
