MIAMI (AP) — Tropical Storm Elida has formed off the southwestern coast of Mexico and is expected to produce high surf and heavy rains.

Elida was centered Monday afternoon about 120 miles off the coast of Manzanillo, Mexico, and had maximum sustained winds of 50 mph. It was moving northwest at 12 mph.

Elida is not expected to strengthen over the next two days, as it changed course toward the southwest but was forecast to stay close to the coast, generating high surf and as much as eight inches of rain in some areas.
