PASCAGOULA, MS (AP) - The grants are from the Office of Justice Programs, a federal grant program of the Department of Justice. Police Chief Kenny Johnson says new bulletproof vests cost between $350 and $450.

Bulletproof vests are worn by all officers. Johnson says they have a useful life of about five years and must be replaced by the manufacturer's expiration date. He says stun guns are made available to officers who choose to carry them.
