Wrestling fans, get ready for some serious action Saturday night the Coast Coliseum and Convention Center. Friday, the 27 year old from England, Magnus, was warming up for his match Saturday night with the current reigning champ, Eric Young. He stopped by our studio Friday. Magnus says, “I was the former champion, and as such, I'm still high in the ranking. So I get a chance to regain the world championship this Saturday night in Biloxi.”
The Convention Center is being transformed into a wrestling ring for Saturday night’s event. Gulf Coast fans are expected to fill the seats like they always do. Matt McDonnell, the Assistant Executive Director of the Coliseum, says, “We have a very good fan base, a very loyal fan base. We're fortunate to be able to do several wrestling events a year here at the facility, and with the amount of television exposure wrestling gets now, the popularity continues. It passes on from one generation to the next.”
You won't have to wrangle to see the wrestlers because they have a meet and greet scheduled and you can meet them face to face. Magnus and other wrestlers are sure to deliver a real treat for wrestling fans on the Coast Saturday night. Magnus also says, “They get to come in and go to different stations where there are sort of different activities going on. They can make signs, take their picture with the championship belt. There is a little set for kids to pretend to be a wrestler. These are things that if I saw when I was a fan, I would have gone ballistic.”
News 25 asked Magnus why he punishes his body putting on these shows around the world. He replies, “To me it’s like I dedicate myself to the profession because I love to go and entertain people and I enjoy what I do.” The action starts Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. Tickets start at $15.
