Today was Community Day, and the public was invited to tour the property and interact with the retired veteran residents. Active military personnel volunteered and Gulfport law enforcement had their equipment on display as visitors enjoyed the day with the vets. Charles Dickerson, an administrator at the Armed Forces Retirement Home, says, "It has been great. We've had a great reaction, and great input from the people coming to see us today. The residents have had an outstanding time." Chris Alexander, the Admissions Officer at the Armed Forces Retirement Home, says, "We let our veterans interact with them and also exhibit their artwork. We have a lot of talent here. We have a lot of history here." Bettylou Dennis, a resident of the Armed Forces Retirement Home and a Navy veteran, says, "We're very fortunate to have it and to be able to come here in our retirement years." The home has hosted these open houses every Veterans Day since the home re-opened in 2010.
