The investigation continues after a shooting in Moss Point leaves a Georgia man dead and an police officer on administrative leave.

Sunday, June 8, a Moss Point police officer shot a man identified as Emanuel Jean-Baptiste near the intersection of I-10 and Highway 63. The man died after he was transported to Singing River Hospital. Moss Point Police Chief Keith Davis reached out to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations (M.B.I.) to look into the situation and make certain the officer’s actions were justified.

Davis explains, “Whenever there’s a case like this, it’s really hard on the police department to make sure everything is handled correctly. Our policy dictated that when an officer is involved in a shooting, we’ll call upon an outside agency to do an independent investigation, so that’s our standard operating procedure.”

The identity of the officer involved remains unnamed, but he will continue with on-leave pay pending the outcome of the investigation.
