True the Vote (T.T.V.), the nation's leading voters’ rights and election integrity organization, today refiled its lawsuit against the Mississippi Secretary of State, the State Republican Party, and ten newly added county election commissions, asking the Court to immediately order election records be opened to inspection, as outlined in the federal election record maintenance and open records provisions codified in the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 (N.V.R.A.) (True the Vote, et. al v. State of Mississippi, et. al. (3:14cv532-HTW-LRA)).
True the Vote refiled in the Southern District of Mississippi, following the motion for relocation by Northern District Judge Michael P. Mills.
In the refiling, True the Vote added an additional eight individual Mississippi voters as plaintiffs, bringing the total number of plaintiffs to 22.
The following nine counties and their respective election commissions have been included as defendants in the case: Copiah, Hinds, Jefferson Davis, Lauderdale, Leake, Madison, Rankin, Simpson, and Yazoo.
“Given the importance of the case, it was imperative that we move as expeditiously as possible so dismissal of our suit in the Northern District of Mississippi and re-filing in the Southern District avoids the potential delays in transferring the case,” Beirne, Maynard & Parsons L.L.P. attorney James E. “Trey” Trainor said. “The Court in Oxford made it clear that Jackson would be a better venue to quickly resolve the serious issues we have brought before the Court.”
True the Vote engaged legal representation with the firm of Beirne, Maynard & Parsons L.L.P. T.T.V.’s complaint was re-filed in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi, Jackson Division.
