A third person has been linked to a car theft ring in Jackson County. Last month, two brothers were arrested for motor theft. Now, the girlfriend of one of the brothers, Brittany Griffith, is also facing felony charges for car theft.

Griffith is being held at the Jackson County Jail in connection to a string of car thefts along the Coast with her boyfriend, Austin Allen. Investigators say they conducted surveillance once a pattern emerged. Sgt. Jeff Smith of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department says, “The fact that they used the same location, that doesn’t happen.” Allen was free on bail for car theft when he was arrested Monday for 15 additional felony charges. Griffith was arrested Tuesday.

More than a dozen cars were taken from Jackson County Park & Ride and along I-10. Greg Evans, the lead investigator on the case, says, “We had a disabled motorist on exit 50. He went down the street to get gas, came back, and his car was gone.” The St. Martin Park & Ride is one of two places that Jackson County investigators say Allen frequented on his car theft sprees, and the way they towed the vehicles was interesting. Smith also says, “From what we determined, they would pull up in a Chevrolet S10 and a four door Kia, was how they towed these cars.” Investigators say victims left their keys in the cars.

Once stolen, they were taken to the scrapyard the same day. Interim Sheriff of Jackson County, Charles Britt, says, “Just another example of us trying to rebuild our reputation, show you we have some exceptional officers in this agency. They do some good work.” Allen and Griffith will likely face additional charges as the investigation continues. Lt. Randy Muffley of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department says, “We’re working with other agencies who had vehicles stolen in the same time frame, so hopefully we’ll be able to piece those to these guys also.” Investigators urge the public to lock their vehicles and report any suspicious activity to prevent widespread theft from occurring.
