On the Gulf Coast, there are several airports to fly out of. When booking a flight, most of us look for the cheapest plane ticket, but other expenses, such as gas to the airport and parking, add up, making travel from one airport pricier than another. Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport is urging for people to fly locally. They have a total impact of 291 million dollars on south Mississippi’s economy. Ashley Duke, the Marketing Director for the Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport, says, "It's important to have that local support and keep it in order to sustain our impact in order to potentially grow our impact." Let's say you decide to go to Atlanta, Georgia. You look at nearby airports: Mobile-Pascagoula, Gulport-Biloxi, and Louis Armstrong International Airport in New Orleans. Then you compare ticket prices, plus gas, and parking for three days. In this case, Gulfport comes out just a bit cheaper, but it's not always that way. Another example: a flight to Utah out of New Orleans. The ticket from New Orleans is about 200 dollars cheaper than the Gulport-Biloxi International Airport, but in the end, is that much money really saved?

Stephanie Babian, a Gulfport resident, says, "If I find a flight that’s 50 to 100 more here than New Orleans or Mobile, I'm going to take the one here just because it's more convenient. It's a lot nicer." Duke also says, "The number one advantage of flying out of our airport is convenience and ease of use." By flying locally, you support the local economy. The Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport hopes with more local support, the airport will grow and attract airlines.
