This is the fifth year that the Gulfport Police have hosted the birthday celebration, honoring traditions of the Marines. This year, Palazzo was the guest of honor, and was awarded the job of cutting the cake. Palazzo says this celebration, being so close to Veterans Day, hopefully reminds people to thank those who've served. Palazzo says, "We kind of not just celebrate the Marine Corp, but we also celebrate all veterans and people always ask me what we can do to thank our veterans. And guess what? All we want to do is be appreciative, so if you have a moment while we're celebrating Veterans Day, if you have a chance to go shake a veteran's hand, give them a hug, and just say a simple thank you. It'll do." Earlier in the day, Congressman Palazzo visited Long Beach Middle School for its Veterans Day program.
