The parade idea originated during Homecoming Spirit Week by academic departments and student organizations. They wanted to show pride in their Gulf Coast Campus. Each group decorates a cart, donated from Gulf Hills Golf Course. The carts then make a tour around the campus, throwing beads and candy to students watching. Brandy Jarvis, the U.S.M. Homecoming Maid, says, "I'm really excited to go to Hattiesburg and get to be the liaison between the two campuses and really promote the students’ pride and their feelings about homecoming here on the Gulf Coast."
