Officials say this year's Smokin’ the Sound was a success. The biggest winner, the SOS Venezuela, took home $18,000 in prize money, which will be donated to a relief fund in Venezuela. Event coordinator, Woody Bailey, says this year's race brought more fans to town then last year’s Smokin’ the Sound, which is a sign the Coast’s economy is bouncing back.
Bailey says, “It looks like to me we had more people this year. I think here again as the economy improves and all, I think more people are getting out. I think we are having a better attendance. I think we are rebuilding our attendance in all since the 2010 time frame.” This weekend, Biloxi has another boating event to look forward to: Smokin’ the Lake.
