Six teachers were honored by Mississippi Power with the Alan R. Barton Excellence in Teaching Award Friday afternoon. Three out of the six are from right here on the Coast, and they are Jeremy Bell from St. Martin High School, Lori Fisher from Pass Christian Middle School, and Constance Roth from Bay Waveland Middle School. The teachers enjoyed lunch at the Great Southern Club in Gulfport before receiving their awards, along with $6,000. The teachers were selected based on their dedication and ability to relate to students.
Fisher says, “To be awarded for doing something that you love is such a great honor. Actually, I’m a little overwhelmed by it. I feel very blessed to have the children that I do have.” Over the last 30 years, Mississippi Power has granted more than $8.6 million to education.
