Work to repair a sink hole in Gulfport is underway, but city leaders say this will just be a temporary fix. The intersection at 16th Street and Dolan Avenue has been closed off since last week after a storm drain collapsed, causing a sink hole to appear. It happened after heavy rains in the area. Gulfport City Council President, Ricky Dombrowski, tells News 25 that it's not the first time this has happened and current repairs that are under way are just a temporary solution to this problem. As for nearby residents and others who drive on this road, it has been a traffic nightmare.
Patti Regan, a resident, says, “It really is scary. We could’ve have been right there and I would have just sunk in. I hope it doesn’t get any larger. When it fell in the first time, I think the whole sewage problem started.” Dombrowski says the sink hole should be repaired within the next week and says the city is looking into a permanent solution to the problem, which includes replacing the storm drain and line.
